Vietnam

The best thing is the high level of savings

The first thing is to classify the country according to both the legal and political situation. Legal has to do with the three basic conditions for economic growth: legal defense of contracts, protection of property, and stability of laws. Political has to do with the credibility of the government and its data.

Vietnam ranks 29 among Australasian countries with a stock market. Number 1 is Australia. I am using IMF data, but these are provided by the government. Therefore, data are as reliable as the government. First, I study data from 2002 to 2013, and see the behavior prior to the 2009 crisis, and after the crisis. Later, I will study more recent years to check for improvements.

GDP growth, investment, and public expenditures make Vietnam a growing economy. Savings are perfect. And the current account balance is improving and getting better (-2% on average).

Government could try to pay its debt by printing money

Inflation is out of control. Public deficit is high (-2% on average) and that will increase the public debt, which is also high.

Overall, if nothing changes, the government will likely print more and more to repay its debts. Investors would find the stock market as the right place to be while the GDP keeps growing. In case of a recession, money will try to fly out of Vietnam.

In order to protect our investment against a 10% inflation, stocks must have PER below 10.

Last developments from estimates show lower inflation levels, which is great. The rest is pretty much the same.

Now, let me take a look at the evolution of the stock market in Vietnam.
